Our Destinations

Hagiotopia invites you to explore lands where history, spirituality, art and heritage come together. From the Eastern Mediterranean to Western Europe, our destinations follow the traces of a Christian history that developed across the ancient Greek and Roman worlds before flourishing during Late Antiquity, the Byzantine era and the Middle Ages.

The ancient heritage of these lands provides an essential historical backdrop: Greek cities, Roman remains and ancient routes recall the civilizations upon which Christianity took root. Yet Hagiotopia focuses primarily on the early centuries of Christianity, Byzantine heritage, the medieval worlds, Frankish and Venetian influences, and the sacred places that have endured through the centuries.

Greece stands at the heart of this journey. It offers the opportunity to follow the memory of the Apostles and the first Christian communities, from the missionary journeys of Paul and his companions to the sanctuaries and monasteries that have preserved this tradition throughout the centuries. Patmos, associated with Saint John and the Apocalypse, Mount Athos, Meteora, the great monasteries and the countless churches and chapels throughout the country bear witness to a spiritual history that remains alive today. Pilgrimage naturally finds its place here alongside cultural and historical discovery.

Türkiye is one of the most fascinating lands in this story. Numerous Apostles and disciples travelled through Asia Minor, where some of the earliest Christian communities were established. Ephesus, Antioch, Cappadocia and the ancient Christian cities evoke these formative centuries, while Constantinople recalls the grandeur of the Byzantine world. Sacred places such as Sumela Monastery, the rock-cut churches of Cappadocia and ancient Christian sanctuaries allow travellers to continue this journey through the centuries, from the apostolic age to Byzantine Christianity.

Cyprus, evangelized from the earliest days of Christianity, also preserves the memory of the Apostles and the first Christian communities. From Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas to the great Orthodox monasteries, the island offers an exceptional heritage. Kykkos Monastery, with its centuries-old traditions, together with numerous Byzantine and medieval churches and chapels, illustrates the enduring presence of this sacred history.

Albania, situated at the crossroads of the Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Balkan worlds, reveals churches, monasteries, frescoes and historic cities that bear witness to this long Christian continuity.

France, finally, opens the door to the great Christian heritage of medieval Western Europe: cathedrals, basilicas, abbeys, monasteries, Romanesque and Gothic churches, and the great pilgrimage routes that shaped the spiritual and cultural landscape of Europe.

From the footsteps of the Apostles to Byzantine monasteries, from pilgrimage sanctuaries to the great medieval monuments, Hagiotopia offers a journey through a Christian history that connects East and West.

Türkiye, Cyprus, Albania and France

At present, Greece is the only destination featured in our travel brochures. All of our cultural and historical tours, itineraries and pilgrimages currently focus exclusively on the discovery of Greek heritage, from Late Antiquity through the Byzantine and medieval periods, including the Frankish and Venetian eras.

Türkiye, Cyprus, Albania and France are part of the destinations that Hagiotopia aims to explore and develop in the future. They are presented here as future areas of discovery because of the exceptional richness of their Christian, Byzantine and medieval heritage, their sacred sites and their historic pilgrimage routes.

These destinations will gradually complement the Hagiotopia collection, following the same approach: to discover the history, traditions, monuments and sacred places that connect the Christian cultures of East and West.
