Hagiotopia was born from one man’s intuition. A PhD in History and lecturer, Ioannis has spent years travelling through Greece, studying its monasteries, churches and the traditions that continue within them. From this work came a conviction: this heritage deserved more than hurried visits, and it could be shared in another way.

He is the one who conceived the Hagiotopia concept and who carries its vision today. His role does not stop at designing itineraries. He checks sources, traces the history of each monastic foundation and ensures that what travellers are told corresponds to historical reality rather than convenient legend. This level of rigour is the hallmark of our journeys.

As a lecturer, Ioannis also knows how to make accessible what might otherwise remain reserved for specialists. A Byzantine inscription, the life of a founding saint, the reason why a monastery was built in one precise place rather than another: when explained simply, such details transform a visit into understanding.

It is this dual ability — that of the researcher and that of the storyteller — that gives Hagiotopia its distinctive character.
